Morefield Campground

Morefield Campground is a developed tent and RV campground in a high-elevation, grassy canyon, about four miles along Main Park Road from the park entrance. It is a useful base for Mesa Verde: you wake up inside the park and can set out toward the archaeological sites without first driving in from town. The 267 sites sit among Gambel oak, native flowers and hills.

Each site has a picnic table, gravel tent pad and fire pit or grill. There are 85 tent-only sites and 15 full-hookup RV sites, so reserve ahead if hookups matter. Some sites have steps or uneven ground; designated accessible campsites and flush-restroom comfort stations are along paved Apache Loop.

Morefield Village serves the campground with a grocery and camp store, gift shop, gas, coin-operated laundry and free showers for campers. The seasonal Knife Edge Café serves breakfast, including an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. Potable water, toilets, the dump station and showers are seasonal, so check what is operating for your dates. Cell service is unavailable, and campground Wi-Fi varies by location.

Mule deer are often reported among the campsites, and wild turkeys also live in the oak canyon. Visitors value the dark skies and occasional ranger programs at the campground amphitheater. Site shade and spacing vary: some campers find their spots exposed or close together, while others find a quiet, spacious site.
