More about Orange Juice Creek Camp

A basic stop on the West Coast TrailOrange Juice Creek Camp is a backcountry beach campsite at about km 15 of the 75-km West Coast…

Orange Juice Creek Camp is a backcountry beach campsite at about km 15 of the 75-km West Coast Trail. It is for hikers on this multi-day route, not a drive-in campground or a standalone day trip. Expect a simple, driftwood-strewn place to pitch a tent, not developed campground services.

The creek and the beachThe camp sits on a narrow strip of sand and pebbles, with reefs breaking up the shore.

The camp sits on a narrow strip of sand and pebbles, with reefs breaking up the shore. Small clearings among the driftwood give hikers places for tents. Near the creek, waves have worn a shallow recess under the cliff that opens toward the beach and ocean. The creek's orange-colored water runs through a jumble of logs to the shore and gives the camp its name. Orange Juice Falls reaches the same driftwood pile, and the creek is often too shallow for swimming.

Plan it as a backcountry stayReach the camp on foot while hiking the West Coast Trail.

Reach the camp on foot while hiking the West Coast Trail. A permit is required even for day hikes, and hikers must attend trail orientation. Use the current tide table supplied there; high tides can make beach walking impossible on parts of the route. The 75-km route usually takes six to eight days and is recommended for people with multi-day backpacking experience. Parks Canada closes overnight use from October 7 through April 30; the usual hiking season runs May 1 to October 6. Carry your food and treat creek water. Trail descriptions disagree about an outhouse and food-cache boxes at this camp, so confirm at orientation before relying on either.
