Long Beach

Long Beach is a broad sandy Pacific beach in the Long Beach Unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, between Tofino and Ucluelet. It's the reserve's headline stretch of open coast: come to walk for a while, watch surfers, or see the shoreline change with weather and tide. If you only want a quick ocean view, choose a roadside viewpoint; this beach rewards time on the sand.

This is more beach walk than lookout stop. The open sand and rolling surf give you room to keep going, then turn back when the tide or your legs say so. Visitors come for long shoreline walks and to watch surfers, and even a short wander gives you the scale of the coast. The broad beach is exposed to wind and cool ocean air, so it can feel chilly even when inland weather is mild.

Surfing is a year-round activity here, but the ocean isn't supervised by lifeguards or surf guards. Parks Canada describes winter surf as generally suited to experienced surfers, with more moderate conditions in summer; waves still change with tide and weather. The water is cold, around 7–14°C.

For a longer beach walk, check the tide first. High water can cut off routes at creeks, and drift logs can roll underfoot. Don't count on every section of shore staying passable as the tide rises.

Pacific Rim lies within the ḥaḥuułi, or traditional territories, of Nuu-chah-nulth peoples, whose communities have lived here for generations. For more context beyond the surf and sand, the nearby Nuu-chah-nulth Trail shares cultural interpretation alongside a walk through coastal forest.

For a beach photo, get the wet sand into the foreground and aim along the shoreline so its reflections and surf line lead toward the open water. Sunset is a popular time here, but mist, cloud and wind are part of the coast too; treat a clear view as luck, not a promise.
