Guide
The Peter Lougheed Park Discovery & Information Centre is a compact indoor visitor centre on Kananaskis Lakes Trail, with a native-wildlife museum and an information counter. It’s a useful first stop if you’re choosing a hike or ski; ask staff about trail conditions, then use the lounge as a warm pause when the weather turns.
Interactive educational games make this an easy stop with kids, and the High Country Theatre shows movies and documentaries on request. The Friends of Kananaskis Country helped build the collection with donated displays and public artifacts such as antlers.
The Meadowview Lounge looks over an open meadow and has a gas fireplace and free Wi-Fi. Bears sometimes dig for Silverweed roots there in spring and fall, so you might get a distant wildlife sighting; enjoy the lounge even if none appear.
A small shared kitchen has a microwave, kettle and sink, but space and equipment are limited. Don’t count on buying lunch here: no food service is listed. Public flush washrooms are available while the centre is open.
