Overview

This is the park’s hub for orientation, conditions, and a quick reset before or after your adventures. Inside you’ll find friendly staff, an interpretive museum, and cozy spaces (Meadowview Lounge and High Country Theatre) that make it more than a quick pit stop.

Getting There & Passes

The centre sits along Highway 40, about 43 km southeast of Canmore. A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park anywhere in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley, so make sure you’re covered before you settle in.

Seasonal Hours (plan around these)

May 8 – Oct 13: open daily, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm.
Dec 1 – Mar 31: open daily, 9:00 am – 4:15 pm (closed Dec 25).
Apr 1 – May 7 and Oct 14 – Nov 30: closed.

When closed, you can still grab Wi‑Fi outside and read the posted trail reports.

Current Advisories (examples as of late 2025)

Advisories change often—check before you go. Recent notices include: Blackshale Suspension Bridge closed (Nov 30, 2025); bear‑related area closures at Kent Ridge North and James Walker Drainage (Nov 30, 2025); Discovery Centre Meadow closure (Sep 15, 2025); and construction around Elkwood Campground facilities (since Sep 1, 2025).

Best Time to Visit

Use it as your first stop of the day for route ideas and conditions, or as a midday warm‑up on winter outings. In winter (Dec–Mar), aim before 4:00 pm; in summer (May–Oct), late morning to mid‑afternoon works well. If you arrive during shoulder‑season closures, plan on using the kiosk, window display, and exterior Wi‑Fi to get what you need.
