Hiking Providential Point Walk

A quick coastal detourProvidential Point Walk is an easy 1.

Providential Point Walk is an easy 1.7 km out-and-back from Wattamolla Picnic Area to a fenced rocky headland lookout. Allow about 45 minutes. It’s a good extra walk during a picnic or beach visit, not a hike that needs its own day.

Getting thereStart from the main car park and cross the grassy picnic ground toward the eastern side.

Start from the main car park and cross the grassy picnic ground toward the eastern side. Hard-packed ground and wider paths lead into coastal forest, then a narrower fern-lined track and a metal-mesh walkway. The grass has uneven patches and potholes, and the final approach includes stone steps, so “mostly flat” doesn’t mean fully accessible. Toilets, picnic tables and barbecues are at the start; bring drinking water, as none is supplied at Wattamolla. Weekend parking can be limited. Dogs and other pets aren’t allowed in the park, except certified assistance animals.

The lookoutThirteen stone steps climb, then five go down to the platform.

Thirteen stone steps climb, then five go down to the platform. The payoff is a wide view across the ocean and along the layered sandstone cliffs toward Boy Martin Point. The headland is high and exposed to wind. The platform is fenced; stay on it rather than stepping out onto the surrounding rocks.
