Hiking Wattamolla Dam Walk

The short routeWattamolla Dam Walk is a 1.

Wattamolla Dam Walk is a 1.7 km out-and-back from the Wattamolla Picnic Area car park to a small freshwater pool on Wattamolla Creek, just above the lagoon. Follow the Coast Track north, then return over the same route; the mapped corridor is about 850 m each way. Allow around 45 minutes. This Grade 3 walk has moderate inclines over formed track and natural ground. Choose it for a quick walk from the picnic area, not as a longer coastal hike.

Starting at WattamollaTake the sealed Wattamolla Road to the picnic-area car park; it is suitable for 2WD vehicles.

Take the sealed Wattamolla Road to the picnic-area car park; it is suitable for 2WD vehicles. The lot can fill before midday on hot summer weekends, so arrive early then. Flush toilets, picnic tables and barbecues are at the picnic area; bring your own drinking water. Park-entry fees apply, and dogs are prohibited except certified assistance animals. In spring, heathland wildflowers bloom along parts of the Coast Track.

The destination is a small creek pool held by a low sandstone wall and fed by a gentle cascade, rather than a tall waterfall. A short boardwalk section is mapped near the dam; elsewhere the route follows bush path and natural ground. Rocks by the water can be slippery when wet, and there is no lifeguard service at Wattamolla. For a useful photo, include the low sandstone edge and a little of the rock shelf in front to show the pool’s scale.
