Mirador Cóndor

Mirador Cóndor is a rocky hilltop lookout above Lago Pehoé, reached on foot from the Pehoé sector. Its broad, mostly flat summit gives you a sweeping view of the lake, Lago Nordenskjöld and the Paine Massif. It’s a great pick if you want a big panorama without committing to a full-day trek. The approach is short—roughly 2.5–3 km round trip depending on your start—but climbs steadily over uneven ground. Give it about 1–1½ hours.

The higher slope is open, and strong gusts are the main drawback visitors mention. Wear a windproof layer and secure a hat, glasses and loose gear. If you’re being pushed around, turn back; the summit isn’t worth a fall. The path has loose, uneven footing.

The summit is a wide, rocky perch, with Lago Pehoé below and the Cuernos and rest of the Paine Massif across the view. Lago Nordenskjöld, smaller lagoons, the Southern Patagonian Ice Field and Sierra Baguales may appear on a clear day. For a photo, include a little lake below the skyline; the rock ledges help show how high the viewpoint sits.

The lower route passes among lenga and ñirre before climbing onto an exposed upper slope. That change is part of the walk: shelter in the trees, then a more open climb to the summit. Condors are among the park’s notable birds, and visitors report seeing them over the ridge, but don’t count on a sighting.

The skyline is made from rock with very different ages. Marine sediments were laid down about 90 million years ago; magma pushed into them around 12.5 million years ago and later hardened as granite. Glaciers and erosion shaped the valleys and exposed that intrusion, leaving the sharp peaks you see today.
