A quick waterfall stopSalto Chico is a compact waterfall on the Paine River beside Lago Pehoé, with the Paine Massif…

Salto Chico is a compact waterfall on the Paine River beside Lago Pehoé, with the Paine Massif rising behind it. It is the smaller of the river's two best-known falls, especially beside the much larger Salto Grande. This is a quick stop for a close look at the cascade and a mountain backdrop, rather than a long waterfall hike. The approach is usually described as an easy walk from Hostería Pehoé.

The river and the settingWater from Lago Pehoé rushes through a narrow, rocky channel here.

Water from Lago Pehoé rushes through a narrow, rocky channel here. Glacial sediment gives the river its pale blue-green color, set against the dark rock and whitewater. A concrete building sits right beside the falls, so the view has a working-infrastructure edge as well as a wild one.

Make the view workLook across the cascade toward the Cuernos del Paine and the Paine Massif.

Look across the cascade toward the Cuernos del Paine and the Paine Massif. Keeping the whitewater in the lower part of the frame with the peaks behind it shows the drop and the scale of the landscape. The building is part of the scene and can be hard to leave out.

The published visitor description points to a comfortable path from Hostería Pehoé, but it does not explain whether the route around Explora is open to non-guests. Confirm the public approach before setting out, and do not assume lodge grounds are public. The precise public access and parking arrangement are not clearly established, so confirm them before you go. Public toilets, water and food at the falls are unconfirmed, and nearby lodge amenities are for guests.
