Trail guide
The Laguna Azul–Laguna Cebolla Trail is an out-and-back across the park’s open eastern steppe to a small lagoon viewpoint with a less familiar view of the Torres. The full mapped route is about 21.4 km (13.3 mi) return; allow six to seven hours at a steady visitor pace. It is not a technical hike, but the distance makes it a full-day commitment. Go for a quieter approach and a different angle on the mountains, not for a short stroll.
The route runs through low vegetation and open ground, with a gradual rise toward Cebolla and little shelter from Patagonia’s wind. A route description says the tread is easy to follow but not signed, so ask the Laguna Azul ranger to point out the start and confirm the path before setting off. Stay on the marked route; the park map shows a walking line to the viewpoint.
Cebolla is a small, dark-water lagoon among low vegetation, with the Torres visible beyond it. The lake is the payoff after a long, quiet crossing. There is no service point established at the lagoon, so carry what you need from the start. Give yourself a few minutes at the shore before turning back; the open water makes a good foreground for the peaks.
Published distances differ: one page says about 10 km return, another gives 15 km, and longer descriptions list 18–20 km. The mapped Laguna Azul-to-Cebolla line is about 10.7 km one way, so this record represents roughly 21.4 km out and back. Confirm with the ranger that you have the full Cebolla route and ask about the current entry-ticket rule before starting. Register at the ranger station, finish in daylight, and leave pets at home; park rules prohibit night hiking and pets.
