Kristínartindar (S4) is a demanding circular mountain hike from Skaftafellsstofa in Skaftafell. The official route is 17.9 km (11.1 miles), takes about 6–8 hours, and climbs roughly 1,100 m to the 1,126 m Kristínartindar summit. It is a difficult route for experienced hikers, with wide glacier and valley views.

Hiking Kristínartindar Trail (S4)

Start in front of Skaftafellsstofa Visitor Centre. The stored line follows the shorter official approach toward Sjónarsker, then continues through the S3 overlap toward the Kristínartindar junction. Turn onto the steep rock-and-scree ascent to the ridge and summit. Descend back to the ridge, take the return branch toward Gláma and Sjónarnípa, and finish via Austurbrekkur to the visitor centre. The line includes the required summit spur and closes at the visitor-centre approach. Svartifoss is a nearby optional detour but is not included in the stored S4 line.
