Driftwood Beach

A photogenic, low-key shoreline on the north edge of Middle Waterton Lake, Driftwood Beach dishes up pale, sun-bleached logs, colorful pebbles, and big mountain scenery. You can gaze across to Mount Vimy and spot the Prince of Wales Hotel perched on its hill. It’s simple, beautiful, and less hectic than the town beaches—ideal for a relaxed pause or a quick picnic.

Getting There

It’s just off Hwy 5: turn right into the small parking area shortly after passing the Parks Canada Operations building. You’re on the north shore of Middle Waterton Lake, east of the Prince of Wales access.

Facilities (or Lack Thereof)

There’s on-site parking and a few picnic tables. No washrooms, water, or food—pack in what you need and pack out everything.

Wildlife

Nothing unusual is singled out for this spot, but lakeshore birds and the park’s usual small mammals are possible. Keep food secure and give any animals plenty of space.

Come for the classic driftwood-and-pebble foregrounds, mountain backdrops, and the hotel on its ridge. Early light is soft and calm; the color in those rocks pops when wet.
