More about Waterton Marina

An easy waterfront stopWaterton Marina is the harbor at the Waterton townsite, on Upper Waterton Lake.

Waterton Marina is the harbor at the Waterton townsite, on Upper Waterton Lake. You can enjoy it without taking a boat: walk the public seawall, sit near the red chairs at Marina Point and look across to the Prince of Wales Hotel. I’d stop while you’re in the village if you want a little time by the water; it’s a scenic pause, not a big attraction on its own.

Boat trips start hereBoat tours leave from the marina for a closer look at the long lake and its shoreline.

Boat tours leave from the marina for a closer look at the long lake and its shoreline. Service is seasonal, so check the operator’s current routes and boarding details if a cruise is your main reason for coming. Boat options differ in route and whether they stop ashore, so check the operator’s current details if you’re taking one. You can also make this a short waterfront visit without getting on a boat.

There’s public parking at the marina, a public inclusive washroom and four EV chargers listed in the marina lot. Charger availability can change. Waterton is easy to explore on foot; if the closest spaces are full, Parks Canada recommends parking a few blocks away and walking. Shops and places to eat are nearby in the village.

The lake-and-hotel viewThe seawall is part of the International Peace Park Plaza, and the red chairs at Marina Point…

The seawall is part of the International Peace Park Plaza, and the red chairs at Marina Point face across the water toward the Prince of Wales Hotel. For a photo, frame the hotel with the lake rather than zooming in on the building; the chairs and shoreline make a useful foreground. The townsite gets busy in peak summer, so go earlier or later in the day, or outside July and August, for a quieter walk.

Waterton’s Peace Park shoreWaterton Lakes and Glacier became the world’s first International Peace Park in 1932.

Waterton Lakes and Glacier became the world’s first International Peace Park in 1932. The marina’s public seawall runs along the townsite plaza that carries that story, so this is more than a boat dock: it’s part of the shared Waterton–Glacier setting.

Two boats with a long historyThe M.V.

The M.V. International began carrying passengers on Upper Waterton Lake in 1927 and still operates as a historic tour boat. Nearby Emerald Bay was once called Steamboat Bay for another vessel, the paddle steamer Gertrude. It served as a sawmill workboat, passenger boat and tea house before being sunk in the bay; the wreck is now a scuba-diving attraction.
