Welch’s Chocolate Shop is a sweets store on Windflower Avenue in Waterton village, packed wall-to-wall with homemade and imported candy and chocolate. It’s an easy stop if you’re in the village and want a treat or a nostalgic browse for old favourites. The selection is the draw, but value and freshness can be hit or miss, so pick a few things that appeal rather than buying a large assortment blind.
You can also get ice cream and fresh baking. The associated Slippery’s Coffee & Pie Shop serves coffee and pies; its Bear Bite is a jumbo cinnamon bun with caramel, chocolate, cream cheese and toasted almonds. Other baked treats include jumbo cookies and cheesecake, though the exact selection can vary.
There’s a shaded patio with views over Waterton village. Carry some Canadian cash as a backup and check the payment options before ordering. The shop follows a seasonal schedule, with its published opening period running from May to mid-October, so check ahead if you’re planning a late-season visit.
