Trail guide
Lilly Pilly Gully Nature Walk is an easy Grade 2, 5.2 km out-and-back (about 3.2 miles return) from Lilly Pilly Gully Carpark. Allow roughly 1.5 hours. It suits a day when you want to see the Prom's interior without committing to a summit or overnight route: the track crosses heathland and eucalypt forest, then reaches a shaded boardwalk through warm temperate rainforest. The main reward is the fern-filled gully and a trickling creek beside the timber path, a very different scene from the park's open beaches.
The route stays relatively flat and easy-going. Open heath gives way to eucalypt forest, then the canopy closes in around the gully. A timber boardwalk carries you among lush ferns beside the creek; turn around at the end of the nature walk and return by the same path. Parks Victoria suggests looking for wallabies and local birds, including the Eastern Yellow Robin and Superb Fairy-wren. The boardwalk's timber rails leading into the fern shade make a stronger photo than a tight crop of leaves: they show where the path is taking you. The grade is easy, but the park flags slippery surfaces and uneven ground, so don't count on a perfectly smooth roll.
Start and finish at Lilly Pilly Gully Carpark, where toilets are available. Keep this route distinct from the 5.8 km Lilly Pilly Circuit, which climbs the southern face of Mount Bishop through stringybark forest before descending to the gully and returning by this Nature Walk. That is the longer circuit; it is not part of the 5.2 km out-and-back. Parks Victoria describes the Nature Walk as family-friendly, suitable for visitors with limited mobility and manageable with a pram. The uneven and slippery sections still matter for wheels or anyone unsteady. Dogs aren't allowed in Wilsons Promontory National Park; assistance dogs have separate entry requirements.
