Wilsons Promontory National Park, VIC
A 3.8 km loop to broad coastal views above Norman Bay.
Overview
Seasonal wildflowers add color through the heath. At the high point, the view opens toward Norman Island and Squeaky Beach, with Mount Bishop across the bays. The overlook is the reason to choose this route; take a few minutes there instead of treating it as a quick pass-through. The walk also visits a quiet place dedicated to rangers around the world who died in the line of duty. That’s a thoughtful pause along the circuit, not a separate side trip.

Trail guide
Tidal Overlook Circuit is a 3.8 km loop from Tidal River Footbridge and back, about 1.5 hours. This Grade 3 walk crosses coastal heathland, climbs to the high point between Norman and Leonard Bays, then drops over granite boulders to Lilly Pilly Link before returning to the river. The stated distance is for the full circuit, not an out-and-back. It’s a good choice if you want a proper coastal walk and a wide view without giving up most of a day. It’s short, but it isn’t flat.
The climb has a short steep section, and the descent through granite boulders is uneven. Rocks can be slippery, so slow down on that stretch. Grade 3 suits a moderate outing rather than a technical scramble. Allow about 1.5 hours, with extra time if you stop at the view or look at the flowers. This isn’t a flat riverside stroll; the climb and rough descent are the parts to budget your effort for.
Begin at Tidal River Footbridge and follow the circuit back there. Use the Tidal River day-visitor parking area, then walk to the bridge. At Lilly Pilly Link, follow the return route to the footbridge; continuing to Lilly Pilly Gully carpark creates a different endpoint and adds distance. Dogs aren’t allowed in the national park, so leave pets out of this walk.
