More about Tidal Overlook

The high point between two baysTidal Overlook is the named high point of a coastal circuit between Norman and Leonard bays,…

Tidal Overlook is the named high point of a coastal circuit between Norman and Leonard bays, known for panoramas out to Norman Island and Squeaky Beach and back toward Mount Bishop. This is a walk-in viewpoint rather than a roadside pullout: the circuit is 3.8 km, Grade 3, and about 1.5 hours in Parks Victoria’s description. It suits a visit with time for a proper walk, not a quick stop between beaches.

From Tidal River Footbridge, the track crosses heathland scattered with seasonal wildflowers before reaching the high point. Pause here to take in the line of coast, from Norman Island across Squeaky Beach, with Mount Bishop behind it. The wider view can also include Picnic and Whisky bays and Mount Oberon, extending beyond the closer island, beach and mountain along the coast. The route then descends through granite boulders to Lilly Pilly Link. That shift from heath to open water and rough granite gives the outing more variety than a brief roadside viewpoint. For a photo, make a wide sweep that includes the island, beach and mountain; those landmarks show the distance and shape of the coast.

At Lilly Pilly Link, follow the circuit back to Tidal River Footbridge or continue toward Lilly Pilly Gully carpark. The walk has a short steep section, and the managing agency warns of uneven ground and slippery rocks. Allow about 1.5 hours for the loop and take care on the granite descent. Dogs are not allowed on the walk.
