Trail guide
Little Oberon Bay is an 8.2 km (5.1 miles) out-and-back from Tidal River, usually about three hours. Start between the Visitor Centre and General Store, climb through tea-tree dunes to the southern end of Norman Beach, then follow the coastal track across Norman Point before dropping to the bay. Parks Victoria grades it 3. It is a proper half day coastal walk, with a sandy climb and a rougher headland section between two very different beaches.
The first 1.5 km climbs through dunes shaded by tea tree. Norman Beach then opens to a long, broad shore with Mount Oberon inland; continue to the signed track at its southern end. The route rises over Norman Point on dirt, with steps and short boardwalk or concrete sections. Views widen along Norman Beach and out to the Glennie Islands. A short side path reaches the point, about 300 m from the main track, while the Little Oberon Bay route carries on south.
After the headland, the track descends among boulders and low coastal scrub to a small cove of pale sand. Clear quartz grains give the beach its light look, and large rocks make natural places to pause above the water. Green granite hills rise behind the bay; the wider view reaches the Anser and Glennie island groups. From the shore, frame the pale sand and boulders against the green slopes. Return to Tidal River the same way.
Allow about three hours for the 8.2 km return. The trail starts between the Tidal River Visitor Centre and General Store; day-use parking is opposite the Visitor Centre. The General Store, cafe and nearby toilets are useful before or after the walk. Dogs are not allowed. Parks Victoria warns of uneven ground, slippery coastal rocks and unprotected cliffs, especially around Norman Point.
