The Hoodoo Creek Hoodoos are pale pillars of glacial debris capped by harder rock, above Hoodoo Creek in Yoho. You reach them by hiking from Hoodoo Creek Campground, so this is a good fit if you want a close look at unusual geology and don't mind a steep, exposed climb. It's not a roadside stop; allow about 2.5 hours for the return hike.

The hike is 3.2 km each way with 400 m of elevation gain. Follow 1.2 km of the closed campground road, then climb another 2 km on steep, dry, exposed trail. A footbridge crosses Hoodoo Creek, and switchbacks through forest bring you to the viewpoint fork. It's a hard 6.4 km round trip; if a sustained exposed climb isn't a good fit, skip this one.

Two short spurs give different views: one passes below the hoodoos, and the other climbs a little higher for an eye-level look at the spires and the valley. Take both if you have the energy. For a photo, include the broad capstones and some of the steep slope; that shows how the narrow columns stand apart from the surrounding terrain.

What holds a hoodoo upParks Canada describes these as capped pillars of glacial debris.

Parks Canada describes these as capped pillars of glacial debris. The harder stone at the top protects softer sedimentary material underneath while weather wears the exposed sides away. Hoodoos are more common in drier places than in Yoho's wetter Rockies, which makes this small cluster an unusual stop.
