The trail begins at a roadside parking area off the Trans-Canada Highway and climbs steeply, with valley views along the way. No toilets or potable water were confirmed at the trailhead, so carry what you need for the outing. Cell service is limited in Yoho; check conditions and save route information before you leave coverage.

From the upper viewpoint, the Kicking Horse and Beaverfoot valleys spread below, with Kapristo Mountain, Bicarbonate Peak and Coral Mountain across the southwest view. Looking west, the braided Kicking Horse River and the highway make useful scale in a photo; keep their pale lines in the lower part of the frame. The upper destination is an open viewpoint, distinct from the historic tower at the lower lookout.
