Zion Canyon Visitor Center

Zion Canyon Visitor Center is the park’s main orientation hub at the south end of Zion Canyon, just inside the South Entrance. Rangers and outdoor exhibits help you plan, and the canyon shuttle’s Stop 1 is beside the building. When the shuttle is running, private cars can’t continue up Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, so this is where you switch from driving to riding.

The bookstore sells maps, books, and gifts, and the wilderness desk handles backcountry permits. Outdoor exhibits and ranger help make this a good place to get your bearings before riding up the canyon. Restrooms, drinking water, and a bottle-filling station are on the campus too.

The paved Pa’rus Trail follows the Virgin River from the center area. For a climb to a canyon overlook, the Watchman Trail rises from nearby and looks toward Angels Landing. The visitor center is a transit and trip-planning hub; the scenic views are out on those walks, not from the parking lot.

Accessible parking and restrooms are available, but the paths across the campus have different grades and surfaces. One route has short stretches up to 5% and drain-cover openings wider than an inch; an alternate plaza path includes short slopes up to 18%. Check the route details if those grades or surfaces matter to you.

The current building opened in 2002. The nearby Zion Human History Museum is the earlier visitor center, opened in 1960 as part of the National Park Service’s Mission 66 building program. They’re separate stops, so look for Stop 1 at this center when you’re ready to board the canyon shuttle.
