A toilet and water tap are reported at the campsite, but the tap is not confirmed as potable; bring drinking water or boil or filter what you use. Bring food for your stay; no food service is listed at the campground. Expect little or no mobile reception. Bold weka may investigate camps, so keep food secured.

Inland and bike routesCanaan is one of the road access points for the 41.

Canaan is one of the road access points for the 41.1 km Abel Tasman Inland Track, an advanced three-day tramp between Marahau and Wainui Bay. It crosses remote interior country with few reliable water sources, so plan a full route rather than treating it as a short walk from camp. Nearby Canaan Big Loop, Gold Creek Loop and Rameka Track offer mountain-bike routes from easy to advanced.

The campsite sits in the open Canaan Downs landscape: rolling grassland, ancient beech stands and scattered unusual rock formations. The clearing feels sheltered by the forest edge, while the gravel road and fenced field keep the campground visibly simple and exposed to hilltop weather.

The old Harwoods Hole track is no longer marked or maintained, so do not treat the hole as a walk from camp. Unstable rock and fatal fall hazards make it a serious risk.
