This is a 2.6-mile out-and-back from the Acadia Mountain Trailhead parking lot to Saint Sauveur’s wooded summit and back. Allow about 2–3 hours for the steep first climb, roughly 500 feet of gain, and uneven footing. The summit itself is tree-covered, so choose this for a quieter forest hike rather than a summit panorama.

Saint Sauveur means “Holy Savior.” The mountain’s name recalls a Jesuit mission established on Mount Desert Island in 1613 by Father Pierre Biard. An English raiding party led by Samuel Argall destroyed the settlement weeks later; the mission site is not on this trail.
