At Milepost 382 just outside Asheville, the Folk Art Center blends a gallery-museum vibe with a practical visitor stop. It’s home to the Southern Highland Craft Guild, the Parkway’s info desk, and America’s National Park Store—all under one roof and free to enter.

• Three galleries showcasing traditional and contemporary Appalachian craft—think pottery, glass, textiles, woodwork, baskets, and more.
• The Allanstand Craft Shop, the Guild’s flagship and the oldest continuously operating craft store in the U.S., stocked with one-of-a-kind pieces from hundreds of juried makers.
• Rotating exhibitions and a permanent collection upstairs, plus a craft library and auditorium.

Programs & Demos

From spring through fall (often March–December), master craftspeople demonstrate techniques daily in the lobby. It’s an easy, up-close way to learn how the region’s best makers turn raw materials into heirlooms.

There’s a Parkway information desk and a National Park Store for maps and planning. You’ll find restrooms, ample parking, and a small picnic area outside. There’s no food service here, so plan meals in Asheville or pack a picnic.
