From the parking loop, a simple 0.3 mile round-trip path heads up to the top of The Lump. It’s an easy payoff with slightly higher, cleaner sightlines and room to roam on grass.
In the parking area, a wayside dives into the Tom Dula (Tom Dooley) murder case—the local tale that became a national folk song. It’s a fun, unexpected layer for a scenic stop.
No site-specific sightings are documented, but you may spot songbirds and raptors overhead, plus deer, small mammals, or the occasional wild turkey in the surrounding woods.
