About Trout Lake
Tucked within Moses H. Cone Memorial Park, Trout Lake is a quiet, shaded pocket of water ringed by hemlocks and rhododendron. It’s part of the historic Cone carriage-road network managed by the National Park Service, so the path here feels more like a gentle country lane than a rugged mountain trail.

A mellow 1.3-mile loop encircles the lake, ideal for a low-effort stroll with frequent water views. Portions of the path are shared with horses, and you can branch onto longer routes in the Cone trail system—including connections toward Rich Mountain, the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, Bass Lake, and up toward the manor. Expect a few unmarked connectors that can be confusing the first time.
