Trail experience
Start at Sims Pond Overlook and skirt the water before following Sims Creek through lush woods. You’ll rock‑hop multiple small crossings and likely hit mud if it’s rained—waterproof shoes earn their keep. The route pops into a meadow with a limited but lovely view toward Grandfather Mountain (best in morning light), then ducks back into forest and passes beneath the Blue Ridge Parkway’s Sims Creek Viaduct—an uncommon perspective. The loop also crosses the Parkway twice; watch for traffic when you pop out.
Terrain is generally easy to moderate with a few short climbs and uneven tread—roots, rocks, and wet spots keep it interesting but not difficult.
