A true crowd-pleaser at Milepost 296.7, Price Lake Overlook puts you right on the shore of 47‑acre Price Lake with a head-on view toward Grandfather Mountain’s Galloway Peak. It’s a roll-down-the-window kind of stop—water, forest, and mountains framed perfectly for quick photos or a longer wander.
Why it’s special
This is one of the Parkway’s most photogenic still-water scenes. On calm mornings you’ll often get glassy reflections across the lake; in fall, the shoreline lights up with color. Night shooters have even captured the Milky Way here.
What to do
- Stroll or run the Price Lake Loop (about 2.3–2.7 miles, minimal elevation). It hugs the shoreline with intermittent lake views and frequent birdlife.
- Get on the water: canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals operate just south of the overlook near the campground. Fishing is allowed; swimming is not.
- Wildlife watch: look for signs of beavers (gnawed stumps, boggy edges) and migrating waterfowl like ducks and loons in spring and summer. Deer and songbirds are common around the loop.
Logistics
There’s a small parking area right off the Parkway that also serves the loop trail. Restrooms are seasonal (porta-potties at/near the trailhead, with additional facilities when the nearby campground is open). The area is very popular—expect busy lots on weekends and during peak leaf season. After rain, parts of the loop can be muddy and rooty. In winter, Parkway closures for ice/snow are common.

Good to know
No food or store at the overlook. The larger Julian Price Memorial Park surrounds the lake with a campground, big picnic area, and more trails just a short drive away.
