Overview
This is an easy, rewarding loop to a pretty cascade with a bonus dose of Blue Ridge logging history. From the Yankee Horse Ridge Overlook at Milepost 34.4, you’ll follow the short footway around a shaded stream and a re-created section of the Irish Creek Railroad before returning to the parking area. It’s one of the easiest waterfalls to access on this stretch of the Parkway (NPS).

Trail guide
Expect a gentle, natural-surface path with a few uneven spots, railroad ties, and roots. The falls drop over gray rock and look best in spring or after a soaking rain; in dry spells they can be modest. The reconstructed logging tracks and interpretive information add real context to the landscape—this was a busy timber corridor a century ago (NPS).
Park at Yankee Horse Ridge Overlook (Milepost 34.4) and follow the signed 0.2-mile loop. The complete loop uses the parking-aisle connector and footway around the railroad exhibit and falls, with modest elevation and roughly 15 minutes of walking and viewing time. The route is easy but not smooth or fully accessible (NPS, AllTrails, Blue Ridge Parkway).
This stop is tailor-made for a quick picnic: the overlook has parking, a picnic table, trash receptacles, and interpretive displays. Bring water and expect no restrooms here. Pets are allowed on a leash under Parkway rules (NPS, NPS pets guidance). The falls can be seasonal, so spring or a visit after rain usually offers the best flow.
Rocks and wood can be slick when wet; tread carefully around the stream and bridge. The path’s uneven natural surface, ties, and roots make it unsuitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Treat any natural water before drinking.
