Overview

Set on an ocean cove near Ingonish, Broad Cove is the park’s big, breezy basecamp: a mix of open and wooded loops beside a long sandy beach. It’s a convenient launchpad for the Ingonish side of the Cabot Trail, with easy access to lakes, summits, and beaches.

Campsites & Amenities

There are 202 sites (182 reservable) spanning full hook‑ups (water/sewer/electric 20/30/50A), unserviced tent sites, and six oTENTik units. Facilities punch above typical campground grade: heated washrooms with hot showers and flush toilets, potable water, kitchen shelters with wood stoves and picnic tables, group fireplaces, an activity building, a small playground, and laundry. Fires are allowed only in provided fireplaces, and firewood is sold on site. Pets are welcome at campsites (leash required) but not in oTENTiks. Expect variable cell reception; Wi‑Fi hotspots are noted.

Beach & On‑site Activities

You’re here for the coast: ocean swimming and beach time are the headliners, with geocaching and an outdoor theatre for variety. In July and August, Parks Canada runs interpretive programs, from nature talks to beach campfires.

Nearby Hikes & Wildlife

From camp, you’re close to Warren Lake for a peaceful circuit (gorgeous in fall), Broad Cove Mountain for big coastal views (watch for moose and eagles), and Jigging Cove for easy birdwatching. Branch Pond Look‑off adds a gradual climb to a highland vantage. Golfers can tee off at Highlands Links; Ingonish also offers whale tours and craft shops.

How It Feels

Serviced loops are convenient for big rigs but can be exposed and “parking‑lot style.” Tent and middle loops tend to feel more sheltered with better spacing. Washrooms and showers are consistently praised for cleanliness. Wind and sun can be factors in open sections.

Season & Reservations

For 2025, Broad Cove operates May 16–October 26. Full services typically run mid‑May to mid‑October. Reservations go through the Parks Canada system; in spring and fall you may self‑register or check in at the visitor centre.

Best Time to Visit

July–August bring the warmest beach days and the full slate of interpretive programs (and the highest demand for serviced sites). Shoulder season is calmer and great for color at Warren Lake. Sunrise light along this coast is lovely, and Broad Cove works best as a base for the Ingonish/east‑side hikes and beaches; west‑side sights are a longer drive.

Practical Notes

Fires belong only in the provided fireplaces; buy wood on site. Check current park advisories for any fire restrictions or temporary trail closures before you go.

Tips

Unserviced loops tend to be more private; serviced loops are more open.
If filling an RV tank from a spigot, bring a water bandit for non‑threaded taps.
Book full‑hookup sites early for July–August; shoulder seasons are easier.
Expect spotty cell service in many loops; head into Ingonish for a reliable signal.
The Cabot Trail has tight turns and grades—take it slow with larger rigs.
