Overview
Warren Lake Trail is a mellow 4.7 km/2.9 mi loop that circles the park’s largest lake. Expect a mostly level path with about 50 ft of total climb—more about roots and occasional mud than hills. Most hikers take 1.5–2 hours at an unhurried pace.
What You’ll See
The route slips through Acadian forest and hugs the shoreline for peaceful water views almost the whole way. Birdlife is a constant companion, and signs of bigger residents—moose and bear—aren’t unusual. About halfway around, a small suspension bridge adds a bit of character and a nice mid-hike pause point.
Trail Feel and Footing
The first and last thirds roll along easily; the far side of the lake is the roughest, with rooty stretches and spots that stay wet after rain (the west end sees the most mud). Waterproof shoes help; trekking poles are nice if roots bug your knees.
Access and Amenities
Start at the Warren Lake picnic area—there’s a large parking lot, washrooms, and a swim-friendly beach. If you’re camped at Broad Cove, a 1.6 km connector path leads right to the loop and makes a pleasant add-on. A park pass is required.
Best Times to Hike
It’s walkable year‑round. Summer brings warm water and a post‑hike swim; it also brings black flies and mosquitoes, so pack repellent. From mid‑May to mid‑October you’ll find full services; outside that window, expect limited maintenance and potentially icy or wet sections. For the smoothest experience, go mornings or late afternoons on weekdays.
Tips and Comparisons
If you’d rather save the easiest footing for last, hike counterclockwise so the rootiest stretch lands mid‑loop. Looking for bigger views? Pair this with one of the park’s coastal lookouts; Warren Lake is the quiet, restorative option—less drama, more serenity. In winter conditions, locals also use the route for snowshoeing or skiing when coverage allows.
