Cahoon Hollow Beach

Overview

Cahoon Hollow Beach is a classic Outer Cape experience: a wide Atlantic shoreline backed by towering sand dunes and the constant thrum of surf. It sits within the protected Cape Cod National Seashore, but it also has a social heartbeat thanks to the Beachcomber perched at dune-top.

Getting Down (and Back Up)

Access is via two long, steep sand paths that descend roughly 75–90 feet from the parking area to the beach. The return climb is a workout, so plan to carry only what you’ll really use.

Vibe and What You’ll Find

Expect big-ocean views, plenty of space along the strand, and a younger, energetic crowd closest to the main access. Walk a ways down the beach and it quiets quickly. Lifeguards are on duty in season. Water is brisk even in summer, often in the high 50s to low 60s °F.

Food, Facilities, and Connectivity

At the top of the dune, the Beachcomber serves lunch, dinner, raw bar items, and drinks. Restrooms are available via porta-potties in the lot, with additional bathrooms inside the Beachcomber when open. Cell service can be inconsistent.

Parking Logistics

There are two adjacent, unpaved lots at the dune top—one town-run and one operated by the Beachcomber. Parking is paid and commonly fills by late morning on peak days. An overflow lot about a mile away runs a shuttle when needed.

Best Time to Visit

Aim for early morning or later afternoon on sunny summer days to beat parking crunch and midday crowds. Weekdays are mellower than weekends. If you want more solitude, head downshore away from the main access.

Safety Notes

Swim near lifeguards when they’re on duty and expect chilly water. The dune climb is strenuous—save enough energy for the hike back up. On clear nights, visitors note good stargazing from the beach.
