Perched atop the dunes at Cahoon Hollow Beach in Wellfleet, The Beachcomber delivers the classic Cape day: sand between your toes, panoramic Atlantic views, and plates of seafood followed by a night of live music. The vibe is casual and lively—great for groups, drinks, and dancing. If you want a quiet meal, come early; if you’re after energy, come late.

History & Setting

The building started life in 1897 as a U.S. Life-Saving Service station before evolving into today’s restaurant/club. When the national seashore was created in 1961, this became one of the few grandfathered private businesses inside the park. It still sits in the dune landscape above Cahoon Hollow, a coastline that’s constantly reshaped by wind and waves—so expect nature to call some of the shots and please stay off the fragile dunes.

What You’ll Experience

A seafood-heavy menu with a raw bar anchors the daytime crowd; as the sun drops, the scene shifts to a buzzy bar with bands or DJs in season. Outdoor seating, ocean air, and that endless horizon do a lot of the heavy lifting—this place is about atmosphere as much as it is about food.

Logistics: Parking, Crowds, and Season

Parking at Cahoon Hollow is paid and can fill very early on sunny summer days; arriving before mid-morning is smart during peak season. You’ll get a voucher to apply toward your bill. Lines and waits are common at meal times. Operations are seasonal—typically from the Thursday before Memorial Day through the last Saturday in September, opening at 11:30 a.m., with weekends only until mid-June.

• Midday on a beach day for an easy seafood-and-sand combo.
• Late afternoon for views and a smoother transition into the music scene.
• Weekdays are generally easier for parking and shorter waits; weekend nights are the most energetic.

Extra Options

If you’re making a getaway of it, two on-site cottages (“Sandbar” and “ComahCabana”) overlook the Atlantic and are steps from the beach, with decks and outdoor showers—handy if you want to wake up to the sound of waves.
