Head of the Meadow Beach“Head of the Meadow Beach is coming up, a good choice for a long Atlantic shore walk. Reaching the sand means crossing a soft dune, so I'd keep the beach gear light.”

Guide
North of Highland is a privately run, tent-focused campground in North Truro, surrounded by Cape Cod National Seashore. Its 237 sites spread across about 58 acres of pitch pine. Most are car-accessible, though a few remote sites take a short walk. The main draw is the wooded Beach Path to Head of the Meadow Beach: it is less than half a mile and takes under ten minutes on foot. Guests can walk or bike there instead of moving the car.
Most sites have no water or electric hookup, so this is better suited to tent campers and smaller setups than to anyone counting on full RV services. Each site has a picnic table and parking for at least one vehicle. Reserve well ahead for mid-July through mid-August or holiday weekends; minimum-stay rules change by date. Open fires, pets, generators and motorcycles are prohibited.
The four camping areas have flush toilets, drinking-water spigots and cold rinse showers. Coin-operated hot showers and laundry are available near the central facilities. Area 1 has the camp store, recreation hall and playground. During the busy season, the store carries camping staples, drinks, snacks and ice cream.
It opened in 1954, before Cape Cod National Seashore was established, and has passed through three generations of the same family. The sites follow the land's natural contours under gnarled pines, with a soft layer of pine needles across the ground.
