More about Cabin Creek Falls

A waterfall in two stepsCabin Creek Falls is a two-tier waterfall tucked into a narrow basalt ravine.

Cabin Creek Falls is a two-tier waterfall tucked into a narrow basalt ravine. Water slips through a thin cleft, drops onto a shelf, then spills again among boulders. A survey puts the full drop at about 220 feet, but the rocks block a view of both tiers together.

A close look takes rough footingYou can see the falls from the paved Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail.

You can see the falls from the paved Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. A short, rocky side path climbs toward a small recess under the cliff, where visitors have felt the spray; stick to the main trail for the simpler view. In leaf-off season, more of the cliff opens up, though the boulders still break up the waterfall. It is an intimate, tucked-in look rather than a clean postcard frame.

Cabin Creek Falls is a worthwhile pause on a longer Gorge walk or bike ride, not a stand-alone outing. The paved route is shared with bikes, and dogs need a leash no longer than six feet. The nearby Starvation Creek day-use area has parking, drinking water, restrooms and picnic facilities; those amenities are back at the trailhead, not beside the falls.
