More about Wyeth Campground

Wyeth Campground is a small campground near Cascade Locks, just off I-84 at exit 51. Its 13 individual sites and three group sites sit in a wooded setting with grassy openings below the Gorge cliffs. It’s a practical overnight stop, especially if you brought a bike: the paved Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail runs right beside camp.

Sites have picnic tables; most are nonelectric, and there are no RV hookups. Before becoming a campground, the site was a seed kiln and guard station, a church camp, and a Civilian Conservation Corps camp. During World War II, it held a conscientious objector camp. That’s an unusually layered past for a place built around a simple night outdoors.

Take Wyeth exit 51 and go west on Herman Creek Road; the campground is about a quarter mile from the interchange. The recommended trailer length is 30 feet, and the loops can be awkward to back through with a longer rig. I-84 is close enough for traffic sound to reach camp, though its volume varies by site. No sites are designated first-come, first-served; an unreserved one may sometimes be available for walk-up, so book ahead if you need a particular date.
