Hiking Multnomah Creek Way Trail (#444)

A rough link through the craterMultnomah Creek Way Trail (444) is a 2.

Multnomah Creek Way Trail (#444) is a 2.7-mile point-to-point segment, measured one way, linking Larch Mountain Trail #441 and Oneonta Trail #424. From the #441 junction it drops to Multnomah Creek, then climbs through the crater to #424. That distance covers #444 alone; it excludes the approach on #441 and any return. Allow about 1.5–2 hours for the rough footing.

Creek, meadow, and rocky treadThe path reaches a log footbridge over Multnomah Creek about 0.2 mile from 441.

The path reaches a log footbridge over Multnomah Creek about 0.2 mile from #441. Beyond it, keep right where #446 branches and follow #444 beside the creek into the crater wetlands. Old-growth forest opens at a boggy meadow with a view of Sherrard Point's volcanic plug. The route then climbs over badly eroded ground and a rocky creek bed before joining #424. The natural tread can hold water outside the drier season, and bikes are allowed, so hikers share the path. Watch your footing through the eroded section.

Use Larch Mountain Day Use Area as the access point and follow #441 to the #444 junction; a valid recreation pass is required there. The segment ends at Oneonta Trail #424, so the 2.7 miles do not bring you back to the lot. To return on foot, continue on #424 as part of the longer crater circuit; the approach and return mileage are separate. Larch Mountain Road is usually snow-closed from November to late spring, and the trail is listed for a late-May to mid-December season.
