Creekside Lodge is the modern, low-key sibling to the historic State Game Lodge next door. It’s tucked along Grace Coolidge Creek with pine-covered bluffs all around, so you get peace-and-quiet plus a front-row seat to the park’s wildlife.

Rooms & vibe

Expect oversized junior suites (refreshed in 2023) with the useful comforts: refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, flat-screen TV, and a practical split-bath layout with an extended vanity. Some units add a private patio or balcony so you can sip coffee while listening to the creek. It’s a small lodge—about 30 rooms—so it feels calm and never like a mega-resort.

Location perks

You’re steps from the State Game Lodge restaurant and lounge, the resort’s gift shop, and the whole State Game Lodge hub. That means you can park once and be close to dining, tours, and scenic drives like the Wildlife Loop and Needles Highway.

Wildlife & tours

This area is prime for sightings—bison, deer, pronghorn and wild turkeys are frequent in and around the valley. The park’s signature Buffalo Safari Jeep Tours roll out from Creekside Lodge, making it ridiculously convenient to catch sunrise or late-day wildlife activity.

What’s missing (and workarounds)

There’s no restaurant inside Creekside Lodge, but breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks are just next door at the State Game Lodge. Lodge rooms are pet-free (select cabins elsewhere in the resort allow dogs for a fee).

Planning notes

Open year-round, so it’s a strong base outside the summer rush.
High-demand periods (summer, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and major park events) can book out quickly and may have stricter policies—reserve early.
