Start at the small parking area off the B3357 near Barn Hill. Pork Hill car park farther west is the larger alternative, but adds walking to this circuit.

Safety

Uneven, open moorland and average waymarking make route finding harder in poor visibility. The northeastern edge borders the Merrivale firing range: check current firing notices, and never enter when red flags fly by day or red lamps show at night.

White Tor Walk is a 6.4-mile loop from a small roadside parking area on the B3357. It crosses Little, Middle and Great Staple tors, then Roos Tor and Langstone Moor, before turning west past a standing stone to White Tor and returning south. Allow about 3–3½ hours for 267 metres of ascent over rough, open moor.

Expect uneven, sometimes bouldery ground and only average route signage; this is a broad moorland crossing rather than a built path, so visibility and footing matter. On Langstone Moor, the route passes prehistoric hut circles; at White Tor, traces of a hilltop fort sit among the rocky summit. The high ground opens wide views across Dartmoor on a clear day.

AccessThe northeastern edge borders the Merrivale training range.

The northeastern edge borders the Merrivale training range. Check the current firing programme before setting out; red flags by day or red lamps at night mean do not enter the live range. Dogs are allowed but must stay under close control. On access land from 1 March to 31 July, use a fixed lead no longer than 2 metres, and keep dogs leashed near livestock. The small B3357 parking area is the actual route start; Pork Hill car park farther west is larger but adds walking to this circuit.
