The route starts on the south side of Denali Highway, just west of its Susitna River crossing. No dedicated trail parking was verified; the nearby bridge boat launch is a separate facility, not a confirmed trail lot.

Susitna River Bridge: Watch the Current“The Susitna River Bridge is coming up, a good place to break the drive and watch a powerful current. Use the pull-off on the north side at the bridge's east end, where a path leads toward the shore.”

Trail guide
Butte Creek Trail is a backcountry out-and-back from the Denali Highway near the Susitna River. The mapped walk to the creek and back is about 8.2 miles round trip; allow around six hours for the rough track and a stop at the water. It suits hikers comfortable with a remote route and sparse wayfinding. For a shorter outing, turn around near Snodgrass Lake for roughly 4 miles round trip, based on the reported two-mile approach.
The track leaves the south side of the highway and crosses low, open country before passing close to Snodgrass Lake. From there it continues about two miles to Butte Creek, where the mapped route turns around. The line is tagged as a rough ground track used by 4WD vehicles and ATVs, and many Denali Highway trails are unmarked. Keep an eye on the route at junctions. The creek crossing is the walk's clearest landmark; frame the open water against the spruce-lined banks.
Older descriptions take the route farther west toward Butte Lake or deeper into the mountains, but they disagree about the extension and distance. This mapped outing ends at Butte Creek and returns the same way; the longer continuation is not included in the 8.2-mile figure.
The access is just west of the Denali Highway's Susitna River crossing. No dedicated trail parking or trailhead facilities were verified; the nearby bridge boat launch is listed separately, so don't assume it serves as trail parking. Snow can block the highway outside its usual open season. Butte Creek can rise to dangerous levels: during a 2012 flood, an ATV rider trying to cross it was swept away. Turn back if the water is high. Current trail maintenance and public-access status have not been confirmed.
