Bowman Lake Campground

Bowman Lake Campground is a 48-site frontcountry campground in Glacier’s North Fork, set in conifers between Bowman Creek and Bowman Lake. The trees shade the sites and screen most direct water views, but the shore is nearby. Think of it as a quiet forest camp with lake access, not a view from your picnic table.

It suits campers who want time for the lake and nearby day hikes. Sites are first-come, first-served, so there’s no reserved site waiting when you arrive.

The campground is about 32.5 miles from the park’s west entrance, including the last 6.3 miles beyond Polebridge. The road is slow, dusty and bumpy. Trailers and RVs aren’t allowed because the long, narrow, winding approach makes turnarounds difficult. Download directions before you leave coverage: the campground has no cell service.

The campground is a base for hiking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. If you bring a boat, get it inspected at Polebridge Ranger Station before launching; motorized boats are limited to 10 horsepower and subject to a 30-day quarantine. The camps themselves sit back in the trees, so walk to the shoreline for the lake rather than expecting an open-water view from camp.
