Inspiration Point Trail

From the west-side landing, the path rises gradually about 200 feet toward Hidden Falls. Underfoot, it is mostly dirt, with sections of rock steps, exposed roots and bare rock. The waterfall is about 100 feet tall and fed by snowmelt. Stop here before deciding whether to continue: this is the main landmark on the way, not the end of the Inspiration Point hike. If the shorter outing suits you, Hidden Falls alone is a 1-mile round trip from the shuttle landing, with about 300 feet of gain.

From the falls, continue another half mile uphill to Inspiration Point. The ascent tightens into steep switchbacks over exposed rock and uneven steps, so the short distance can feel more demanding than the park’s “easy” rating suggests. If balance on rough ground is a concern, the falls are a sensible turnaround. At the top, the rocky viewpoint looks over Jenny Lake and Jackson Hole Valley, with Cascade Canyon and the Cathedral Group—Mount Owen, Teewinot and the Grand Teton—on the skyline. For a photo, keep the rock in the foreground with the lake beyond it; a frame of water alone loses the sense of height.

Park at South Jenny Lake, reached from Teton Park Road, then use the boat shuttle to the West Shore Boat Dock. The boat is privately operated; check its current hours and fare before you plan around the short route, and buy tickets at the dock. In midsummer, the South Jenny Lake parking area fills early, and the park advises arriving before 9 a.m. If you prefer to walk around the south shore instead of taking the shuttle, the longer approach to Inspiration Point is 5.7 miles round trip with about 870 feet of gain. The 1.8-mile figure here starts at the west dock. There is no separate activity fee or reservation for the hike, though the park entrance fee applies. Pets are not allowed.

The shuttle-assisted Hidden Falls out-and-back makes a good shorter choice if the viewpoint climb is more than you want: 1 mile round trip and 300 feet of gain. Continue to Inspiration Point when the panorama is the reason you came; turn back at the falls for a substantial waterfall stop with less climbing.
