Sargents Bay Picnic Area is a modest stop in the northern part of Grand Teton, with a few picnic tables and views over the bay toward the mountains. I'd use it for a simple meal or a quiet break if you're already on this side of the park; it isn't a destination that needs a special detour.

The picnic area is marked accessible, though the details of the route and table setup aren't spelled out. No restrooms are listed here; plan to use the ones at Leeks Marina to the south or Lakeview Picnic Area to the north.

A strange story nearbyJohn D.

John D. Sargent and Robert Ray Hamilton built Merymere, a guest lodge above Leeks Marina, in the 1880s. Hamilton later disappeared on a hunting trip. After his body was found, a signal fire helped give nearby Signal Mountain its name. It's a curious piece of Jackson Hole history to have in mind while you stop here.
