Teton Point Turnout

Teton Point Turnout is a roadside viewpoint over the Snake River valley, with the Teton Range rising beyond the broad valley floor. It’s a quick stop for a wide mountain view, and you can take it in without setting out on a hike. There’s an interpretive display, and the site is listed as wheelchair accessible.

Look below the mountains and the valley floor breaks into terraces that step down toward the Snake River. Glaciers repeatedly advanced across Jackson Hole during the Pleistocene; when they melted, fast water carved these broad levels. Cottonwoods and conifers trace the river through the open plain.

The skyline helps you get your bearings: Grand Teton, the range’s tallest peak, with Mount Owen and Teewinot to its north and Middle Teton to its south. The sharp rise from valley floor to high peaks is the view’s big contrast.

For a photo, keep the layers of the valley in front of the mountains: open sagebrush, the darker river corridor, then the peaks. A panorama captures the sweep better than zooming in on one summit.

Visitors sometimes spot bison on the open plain or moose near wet grass by the river, but sightings are occasional and can be distant. Treat wildlife as a lucky extra, not the reason to count on this stop.
