Schwabacher Landing Trail

Schwabacher Landing Trail is a mostly level 0.6-mile out-and-back from the parking area along beaver ponds in a braid of the Snake River. Allow about 30 minutes for the mapped walk, plus time beside the water. This is a short wildlife-and-view stop, not a climb; return along the same corridor. Schwabacher Road can close seasonally based on conditions, so check current access before driving in.

The path skirts wooded wetland to the west and open sagebrush flats to the east. A large beaver dam is about 0.2 mile from the lot. The mapped footway runs about 0.29 mile north from the access. Published distances differ: the shorter walk is listed at 0.5 mile round trip, while a longer description follows a narrow continuation toward a fading tread roughly two-thirds of a mile from the start. That faint extension is not included in this route; turn back where the clear path ends unless you deliberately want the less certain continuation.

In calm conditions, the ponds can mirror the Teton peaks, especially in the early morning. You can get a clear mountain view near the parking area; walking farther mainly changes the foreground. This Snake River floodplain is habitat for moose, elk, pronghorn, mule deer, coyotes, bald eagles and waterfowl, though sightings are never guaranteed. Pets are prohibited on Grand Teton National Park trails; service animals are permitted under applicable rules.
