Hiking Two Ocean Lake Trail

The full lake circuitTwo Ocean Lake Trail is a 6.

Two Ocean Lake Trail is a 6.4-mile loop around the lake, starting and finishing at Two Ocean Lake Trailhead. It’s a moderate day hike with about 700 feet of total climbing; allow three to five hours, with four hours a sensible plan. The payoff is a full lakeshore walk with views of the Teton Range, including Mount Moran above the water. I’d choose it when you want a half-day by a lake, not a quick viewpoint stop.

Meadows, forest, and waterThe route circles the lake rather than climbing to a summit.

The route circles the lake rather than climbing to a summit. Narrow sections pass through dense fields and forest, with the shoreline and mountain views opening up along the way. The best-known view pairs the lake with Mount Moran; there isn’t a single marked overlook to race toward, so enjoy the changing views as you make the circuit.

Spring mud and summer mosquitoesAfter spring snowmelt, the trail can be marshy and muddy.

After spring snowmelt, the trail can be marshy and muddy. Early to mid-summer brings wildflowers, but mosquitoes are common around the lake then too. Plan for a slower walk if the ground is wet and bring bug protection for a summer visit.
