Marriners Lookout“Marriners Lookout is coming up, with Apollo Bay's crescent beach and town spread below a grassy hilltop. I'd give it half an hour if you want to see the coast and green hinterland together.”

Trail guide
Marriners Lookout Walk is a short out-and-back from the car park at the top of Marriners Lookout Road to a hillside viewpoint above Apollo Bay. The official regional walking map lists 1 km (0.62 mi) return and about 20 minutes on foot. The mapped track is shorter, so treat the distance as approximate. It’s a good quick stop if you’re happy with a brief, steep climb for a wide coastal view; allow about half an hour, or longer if you want to linger.
The path climbs on gravel, then finishes on a short grass footway. The track is uneven underfoot. At the lookout, Apollo Bay and its curved beach spread below you, with the ocean and hinterland beyond. Sunrise is a particularly lovely time for the light; frame the curve of the bay with the town in the foreground rather than photographing open water alone.
The walk crosses private property with visitor access. Follow the current signs, close gates and take rubbish with you; dogs are not allowed. Start at the car park at the top of Marriners Lookout Road. It can be busy on weekends and public holidays, and there are no toilets on the walk.
