Camping & Stays

You’ve got powered and unpowered sites (including riverfront), plus new Eco Safari and “River Haven” glamping tents—some with accessibility features, private ensuites, and river views. Dogs are welcome on campsites year‑round (not in glamping tents or cabins). Campfires are permitted—check current guidelines with the office. Check‑in is 12:00 and check‑out is 10:00.

Facilities

Expect clean, basic amenity blocks with toilets and showers, a camp kitchen, free BBQs, coin‑operated laundry, and a dump point. Tennis courts and the oval are right there, and the broader reserve includes picnic areas and tables. There’s a signed car‑parking area, and one car space is included per campsite booking (boats/trailers noted).

Location & What to Do

From your tent you can wander to Mounts Bay for a swim or surf, cast a line in the Barham River, or walk into town in under a kilometer. Snorkel or dive the nearby Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary to see the resident seals, or use this as a handy base for sections of the Great Ocean Walk. On weekends, poke around the foreshore market and sample local seafood.

Wildlife

Keep an eye on the eucalypts at dawn and dusk for koalas. Along the coast you’ll often spot seals—watch from shore or join a guided tour and keep your distance. After dark, head to nearby Melba Gully on a damp, moonless night to see glow worms; use a dim red light to preserve night vision. In summer, snakes can be active—stick to tracks and wear closed shoes. Birdlife is great along the river; mozzies can be lively at dusk.

Best Time to Visit

Spring and summer are the headline seasons here; book early for December–February and school holidays. Midweek stays are quieter. For breezier afternoons, secure tents and awnings—this coast gets wind and salt spray. Early morning or late afternoon brings softer light for beach and river photos, and better chances for koala sightings.

Choosing a Site

If you’re after calmer evenings, pick riverside sites rather than those by the road or oval. Want convenience? Aim for spots near an amenity block, BBQs, or the camp kitchen. Bringing a dog? Campsites only.

Redevelopment Notes

A revitalization project has been underway, with upgrades slated around mid‑2025. During works, the park has opened limited camping areas outside the construction zone on select dates (e.g., Easter, Anzac Day, the Great Ocean Road Running Festival in 2025). Check current availability and any staging before you book.
