The Rocky Harbour Visitor Centre is Parks Canada’s main information hub for Gros Morne, a spacious modern building on Eastlink Road in the park’s central area. It is a useful early stop if you are choosing trails or assembling a multi-day plan: staff can answer questions about trails, accommodation, services, activities, events, nearby attractions and historic sites, and maps are available here. Tens of thousands of visitors come each year for this kind of advice. If your route is already settled, you can make it a quick map-and-orientation stop; its main role is to help you plan time elsewhere in the park. This is the Rocky Harbour centre, distinct from the park’s separate Discovery Centre in Woody Point.

The rebuilt centre covers 1,125 square metres—seven times the size of the former building—and includes a public foyer, reception and exhibit space. It feels like a full visitor hub rather than a small counter: pause for staff advice, pick up a map, then browse the displays before you drive on. Visitors repeatedly praise the helpful staff and informative exhibits, and the larger lobby gives you room to ask questions or take a break indoors. Its purpose extends beyond wayfinding; the project was designed to welcome visitors to nearby communities as well as the park. A stop can be just long enough to collect a map, or longer if you want to read the displays and take in the surroundings.

The renewal replaced a visitor centre that had stood for more than 40 years and officially reopened in 2024. Some timber beams from the former structure were reused, and rooftop solar panels were part of the new building. The design was informed by consultation with Qalipu and Miawpukek First Nations, with Mi’kmaq language included in interpretation. The front is easy to recognize by its tall, dark angular entrance gable between warm timber cladding and broad low wings. Gros Morne Mountain is visible behind the building, so even this practical indoor stop sits against a mountain backdrop. Treat the centre as an introduction and planning base, not a substitute for the park’s trails and coastline.

The centre operates year-round, but hours become much shorter outside the main summer season; check the current Parks Canada schedule before building your day around a visit. A national park entry pass is required. The accessible building has two single-user all-gender flush toilets with powered doors and baby-changing stations during opening hours, plus a similar exterior-door toilet that is available 24 hours. Wi-Fi and EV charging are listed. The parking redesign added space for RVs and trailers and gave buses a separate drop-off and pick-up loop; the exact capacity, fees and typical fill time are not established. No food menu was confirmed, so do not rely on the centre as a meal stop without checking ahead.
