About Brooks River Bridge

Opened in late June 2019, the Brooks River Bridge is a long, elevated boardwalk and span over the lower Brooks River. It replaced the old seasonal floating bridge that was notorious for “bear jams,” giving people a far more dependable way to move between Brooks Camp and the bear‑viewing platforms while letting bears roam the river corridor with fewer interruptions. The structure runs roughly 1,200 feet and stands about 8–10 feet above the ground, so you’re walking eye‑level with the river scene rather than in it.

Tips for visiting Brooks River Bridge

Use the restrooms in Brooks Camp before you cross—there are none on the bridge.
Build in buffer time for ranger holds when bears approach the bridge.
