Trail guide
The Blue Trail to Bradley’s Lookout is a 1.2-mile out-and-back from the Pinnacle Preserve Main Parking Area. Follow the shared opening stretch, then take the Blue Trail to a rocky ledge above Lake George. It’s the shorter of the two hikes from this lot, with mostly gradual climbing and one brief, steeper finish. Allow about 45 to 60 minutes with time at the view.
Plan on about 0.6 mile each way from the lot: the detailed map breaks that into 0.1 mile to the Blue split and 0.5 mile beyond, while another online figure still lists 0.8 mile one way. The mapped route supports the shorter distance, but leave a little slack for the discrepancy.
The first stretch is shared with the route to The Pinnacle. At the signed split, follow the blue markers toward Bradley’s Lookout; the red route goes to The Pinnacle and continues into a longer, steeper hike. The Blue Trail is a broad, mostly smooth dirt path that climbs gradually through the woods. Around halfway, it opens into a wider, old logging-road-like stretch, with pockets of evergreen forest along the way.
Near the end, a short rocky hill is steeper than the approach. The lake first shows through the trees, then the path reaches a rocky outcrop with a wide view across Lake George toward wooded islands and the Tongue Mountain ridge. The open lake panorama is the payoff here. Look for the fixed photo station at the overlook; it helps make a repeatable picture for a long-running record of environmental change.
Use the designated main lot on Edgecomb Pond Road, about 0.3 mile north of Bolton Community Center. If it’s full, the preserve directs visitors to Bolton Conservation Park at 56 Edgecomb Pond Road. Roadside parking isn’t allowed. The preserve is free and open year-round from dawn to dusk. Dogs are allowed on leash. Early spring can bring muddy patches and slick footing, and the final rocky rise is the roughest part of this short walk.
The original 73-acre Pinnacle property was protected in 2015, and the connected Bradley’s Lookout parcel added another 62 acres. Together, the preserve’s wooded slopes help protect Finkle Brook, one of Lake George’s major tributaries. The view makes the connection easy to appreciate: the lake below depends on the forested watershed behind it.
